Last updated: October 22, 2026

1. Who we are

Nigeriansinamerica.net (the "Site") is a community project operated by Diaspora Wire LLC ("we", "us", "our"). This policy explains what personal information we collect, how we use it, and the choices and rights you have. By using the Site you agree to this policy.

2. Information we collect

When you join the community, you give us:

  • Your full name
  • Your email address
  • Your US WhatsApp phone number
  • The city you are interested in
  • Your consent choices and the button you used to sign up

We also record the date and time you signed up. Our hosting platform may automatically collect basic technical data such as IP address, browser type and pages visited, for security and to keep the Site running.

3. How we use your information

  • To add you to your city community group on WhatsApp
  • To send you a welcome email and community updates, announcements and event information
  • To respond to your questions and requests
  • To protect the Site against fraud, abuse and spam, and to meet legal obligations

4. We do not sell your information

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with third parties for cross-context behavioral advertising. We have not sold personal information in the past 12 months.

5. Who we share information with

We share information only as needed to run the community:

  • Service providers that host the Site, store member records and deliver email on our behalf, under obligations to protect your data.
  • WhatsApp (Meta). When you join a WhatsApp group, your name and phone number can be seen by other members of that group. WhatsApp is a separate service with its own Terms and Privacy Policy, and we do not control it.
  • Legal and safety. We may disclose information when required by law, subpoena or court order, or to protect the rights, safety and property of our members, the public or ourselves.

6. Cookies and similar technologies

We use a small amount of browser storage to remember your cookie choice. Beyond that, we do not use non-essential cookies unless you accept them. You can choose "Essential only" in our cookie banner to decline everything that is not strictly necessary, and you can change or withdraw that choice at any time with the "Cookie settings" link in the site footer. You can also clear or block cookies in your browser settings, although parts of the Site may not work as intended.

7. How long we keep information

We keep your information for as long as you are a community member and as needed to meet legal, security and operational requirements. When you ask us to delete your information, we delete it unless the law requires us to keep it.

8. Your privacy rights

Depending on where you live (including California, Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, Texas and other states with privacy laws), you may have the right to:

  • Know what personal information we collect, use and disclose, and request a copy of it
  • Correct inaccurate information
  • Delete your personal information
  • Opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information (we do not sell or share it)
  • Withdraw your consent, including leaving the WhatsApp group and unsubscribing from emails
  • Not be treated unfairly for exercising any of these rights

To exercise a right, email us at info@diasporawire.net. We may need to verify your identity, such as by confirming the email address and phone number you signed up with. We will respond within the time the law allows, generally 45 days, and we will tell you if we need more time. You may use an authorized agent, and you may appeal a decision by replying to us.

9. Email communications

We send emails you have asked for and community updates. You can opt out at any time by emailing info@diasporawire.net. We will honor your request promptly and within 10 business days, as required by the CAN-SPAM Act.

10. Children's privacy

The Site is for adults. You must be 18 or older to join the community. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18, in line with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). If you believe a child has given us information, contact us and we will delete it.

11. Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical and organizational safeguards to protect your information, including restricted access to member records. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security. If a data breach affects you, we will notify you as required by applicable law.

12. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We will post the new version here with a new "Last updated" date. Material changes will be highlighted on the Site.
